Role Overview:

The Head of Operations leads the company’s strategic direction and ensures smooth daily operations. This role drives exceptional performance from the Project Management Team, adhering to processes while promoting continuous improvement. Additionally, the Head of Operations influences company strategy, ensures compliance, and supports team development. The ideal candidate will be an energetic leader who can inspire teams, offer strategic guidance, and enhance both business growth and operational efficiency.

Strategic Direction:

  • Provide insights and feedback for key business decisions, including resourcing, risks, and opportunities.
  • Represent the company in client meetings and tender interviews, advocating for new business and discussing project processes.
  • Identify inefficiencies and collaborate with the Operations Director to implement systems for greater efficiency and quality.
  • Oversee key metrics such as resource distribution, run rate analysis, and supply chain risk.
  • Develop and manage training programs to improve team skills and maintain high competency across roles.
  • Contribute to long-term resourcing strategies to support growth and scalability.

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Lead the Project Team Lead and Project Management team, including involvement in HR decisions.
  • Address challenges, mitigate risks, and engage with team members to understand pain points.
  • Manage team structure and capacity planning to align with business needs.
  • Set KPIs, track performance, and conduct appraisals to ensure goal achievement.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as the main escalation point for project issues and contribute to problem-solving.
  • Manage budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality.
  • Monitor and address risks related to project delivery, supply chain, and compliance.

Operational Management:

  • Ensure project execution aligns with timelines, budgets, and client expectations, promoting effective communication and collaboration.
  • Oversee the maintenance and utilization of tools like FileMaker, SharePoint, and Teams across teams.
  • Incorporate lessons-learned feedback to improve processes and client satisfaction.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of company processes, systems, and industry trends, acting as an internal expert.
  • Occasionally attend site deliveries and installations to uphold quality standards.
  • Promote interdepartmental alignment to streamline operations and support company success.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and assist in audits.
  • Identify opportunities for business growth and process improvement.
  • Regularly review key policies, including health and safety, anti-corruption, and modern slavery statements.
  • Support sustainability efforts, contributing to low carbon and waste reduction strategies.
  • Uphold company values, supporting B Corp and sustainability goals.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in senior operations roles, preferably in project management, procurement, or related fields.
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Expertise in process improvement and compliance management, with ISO experience preferred.
  • Proven project management experience with multi-phase projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to maintain professional client relationships with empathy.
  • Flexible, proactive, with the ability to balance strategic oversight and hands-on involvement.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communicator, able to collaborate across all levels of the business.
