Residential Interior Design Assistant (Maternity Cover)
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Residential Interior Design Assistant to join our team on a maternity cover basis at a renowned interior design studio specializing in high-end residential projects. This is a fantastic opportunity for an emerging designer eager to gain hands-on experience and grow within a creative and collaborative environment.
Position Overview:
The Interior Design Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the design team on residential projects during the maternity cover period. The ideal candidate will be educated with a relevant degree or diploma and have at least 2 years of experience working in a professional design studio. This role reports directly to the Directors, who will provide mentorship, supervision, and guidance for personal and professional development.
This is a full-time, temporary position based at our Pimlico Road studio. All candidates should be eligible to work in the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with Design Packages: Support the Directors in preparing interior design and architectural packages for residential projects, including technical drawings, elevations, plans, and bespoke joinery designs.
- Drawing Production: Work on producing high-quality, detailed drawings using AutoCAD and the Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop and InDesign).
- Client-facing Support: Contribute to client-facing aspects of projects, ensuring client needs are met while maintaining the design vision and high standards.
- Tender & Construction Packages: Assist in creating tender and construction packages, including schedules of work, lighting & power plans, and sanitary ware details, for Director review.
- Site Visits & Coordination: Conduct site visits to monitor progress and assist with coordination of contractors and other professionals involved in the project.
- Planning Regulations Knowledge: Demonstrate a solid understanding of UK planning rules and regulations to ensure compliance in project execution.
- Collaborative Teamwork: Work effectively both as part of a team and independently under the supervision of the Directors.
- Professional Development: Continuously develop skills and knowledge to stay ahead of industry trends and standards in the residential interior design field.
- Ad-hoc Tasks: Assist with any additional duties or requests from the Directors to meet the needs of the business during the maternity cover period.
Key Skills & Experience:
- A relevant interior design degree or diploma with 2+ years of experience in a professional design studio, preferably in high-end residential design.
- Strong technical skills in producing interior architectural drawings with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and other relevant design software for creating high-quality technical and presentation drawings.
- Knowledge of UK planning regulations and the ability to apply these in project execution.
- Excellent attention to detail, with innovative problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written, with the ability to present ideas clearly and confidently.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to take constructive feedback and grow professionally.
- 3D design skills are a plus but not essential.
